Your tour begins with a pick up from your accommodation in Reykjavík and
briefing about the adventures that lie ahead over the next two days.
From Reykjavík we will east towards the Þingvellir National Park, the
founding place of the Icelandic parliament, the oldest one in the world.
The park also offers great beauty and views over the meeting place of
the continental plates of America and Europe, the rifts and canyons that
accompany it and the largest lake in Iceland, the shimmering, deep blue
Þingvallavatn. From the lakeside we head over the mountains and onwards
to the Geysir Hot Springs to see the Strokkur spout up a colum of super
heated water and around the corner thunders the Golden Waterfall,
Gullfoss, into the vertical glacier river canyon of the Hvítá River.
After lunch we drive over the river at the Brúarhlöð canyon and up to
the central Highlands through the Þjórsádalur valley. On our way will
stop at the Háifoss, one of Iceland’s highest waterfalls and
Þjóðveldisbær, a completely restored Viking house, before powering into
the highlands and to the Landmannalaugar Hot Springs.
Our second adventure packed day will start with highland drive from
Landmannalaugar, down passed the Hekla Volcano and along the
Eyjafjallajökull Glacier to the black sand beaches of Sólheimajökull
Outlet glacier. On which we will hike on crampons and even try to ice
climbing the ice walls. We will also stop at the powerful Skógar
waterfall and walk behind the Seljalandsfoss waterfall. After all the
action we will head back towards Reykjavík but not before stopping at
Eyrarbakki where we will dine on exquisite North Atlantic lobster at a
sea side restaurant.
