Combination Tour: Driver guided super jeep safari, sightseeing Hjálparfoss waterfall, Landmannalaugar hot springs and Hekla volcano and hot spring bathing. All year super jeep day tour from Reykjavik, Iceland.
This trip is rated as Easy with 2 out of 5 possible.
As we set our course east from Reykjavik will drive through the so called "Settlement Lava Field",
past the Geothermal Power Station Hellisheiðarvirkjun, Selfoss (the
largest village on the South Shore) and the idyllic Icelandic
countryside, giving you a chance to spot typical Icelandic farms with
Icelandic livestock roaming around the farmlands. After roughly an hours drive the landscape will start changing as we turn off the main road and start driving north-east. The legendary Hekla Volcano will greet us when we officially enter the highlands. The vikings believed that Hekla was the entrance to hell and they had a good reason to. It has erupted over 20 times since Iceland was settled and in the last millenium it has produced one of the largest volumes of lava in the world.
At his point you will start to understand why people are so attracted to the Icelandic highlands. As we cross countless lava fields and rivers on our super jeep we will drive past explosion craters and colorful rhyolite mountains that will take your breath away. You will see colors you did not know existed and lava formations that will stir your imagination.
Our final destination is Landmannalaugar hot springs. It is simply a geological wonder everyone will enjoy. In Landmannalaugar you will encounter numbers of geological phenomenons such as hot springs, craters, intrusions, lava fields and mountains of every color you can imagine. Remember to bring your bathing suit along because there is no better way to enjoy this other wordly scenery than bathing in a natural hot stream! By now you will be in love with the oversized super jeep that made it possible for you to reach this highland paradise.
Your expert super jeep driver will take a different highland route back to civilization. It is also a scenic route leading you to the moon-like Ljótipollur lake situated in an explosion crater and the picturesque Hjálparfoss waterfall.
